音楽簿1967年07月15日号

1967年の夏真っ盛りにHITTABLEが再開した。何度もお伝えしているように、アメリカでの1967年の夏はsummer of loveと言われ、ヒッピーがフラワー・チルドレンと呼ばれ、花飾りをつけてＬＳＤを吸いながら異様なムーブメントを起こした夏である。音楽でもサイケデリックなフラワー・ミュージックが主流となった。問題はその内容であるが、その評価は今になって改めて聴くしかないだろう。この7月15日号をいきなり見渡すと、ビート・ポップスがまさに混沌として様々な可能性がチャレンジされた瞬間だったと思う。以上、毎日7曲1週間早走りで、全曲紹介します。ワナワナ。
（注意！文献なしでいきなりシャベクリですので、内容、文字共に正確ではありません。）

1位はブルー・アイド・ソウルのyoung rascalsの2度目の№1で、今度は夏らしくトロピカル・ムード一杯の永遠曲。2位はこの夏の象徴グループjefferson airplaneのsomebody to loveはビート・ポップスからロックへ移行する、これも永遠曲。つまり商業音楽ながら商業が一旦どこかへ消し飛んだ。これから5，6年はそんな感じで、媚のない音楽が流行る。3位はturtlesの2曲連続№1が陥落した。4位は言わずと知れた永遠曲、procol harumのデビュー・ヒットa whiter shade of paleはもう絶句。5位は和製ポップスで流行った。ドラマーのアイ高野が歌っていた。英語名I love youはzonbies。6位ＦＥＮのラジオの片隅で鳴っていた曲を見逃さなかったsummer of love曲。後にparade のsunshine girlとわかった。何と全米20位まで上がった。全米だと20位なら大ヒットだ。7位は4位曲と共に赤丸急上昇。デビュー・ヒットはあの永遠のbee geesの永遠曲。8位はpaul revere & the raidersの連続ヒット。とっつきは地味だが味のあるビートポップスは玄人っぽい。・・・というわけで1967年7月15日付け発表を終了。これだけの品揃えは圧巻。、

9位here comes the babyはthemの玄人ヒット。今では有名だが、当時ここまで上がっているとは意外。・・・おっとこれは勘違い。Tremeloesのスマッシュヒットが正しい。メロディも今聴きなおしたらすべて思い出した。

10位don’t you care は第2弾のダブルヒット、buckinghamsは当時先進的なブラスを取り入れてヒットを連続。後のシカゴやＢＳＴに受け継がれていった重要グループ。飽きが来ない。11位love me foreverはアメリカンポップスの生き残りBobby vintonによるバラード。12位another day,another heartackeはfifth dimentionの2発目でママパパのjohn phillipsが作曲の中ヒット。13位portrait of my loveはtokensのミリオンセラー。Four seasons,happeningsなどと同じコーラス系。ライオンは寝ているの大ヒットで知られているが、この曲はっきり言って無名。14位I think we’re alone nowはtommmy james &the shondellsの全米№1。前作hanky pankyも№1だが、イメージチェンジしてハーモニー系に。15位I believe it allは完全失念、相当曲が見当たらない。

16位beautiful dreamsであるが失念。単純な言葉であるため様々なところが関係して、ますますどう調べても不明である。17位lawdy miss clawdyはbuckinghamsの第2弾。Don’t you careであるところ、以前所属した別レコード会社からも同時発売だったという。サウンドはちょっと古く人気も今一つ。18位I got rhythmはミリオンセラーの大ヒット。全米ではトップにならなかったが、ガーシュインのリメイクとしては颯爽としていた。4人組happeningsのハーモニーも痺れた。19位in challar、シャンソンでadamoが歌って日本でも大ブレーク。20位carry annはhollies絶好調時の傑作。これもコーラス・ハーモニー。これだけハモるグループが出た時代がスゴイ。21位、scot mckenzieのsan francisco（be wear some flowers in your hair）はフラワー・ミュージックの頂点を示して、大大ヒット。ちょっとフォーク調が過ぎてHITTABLE評価はどうだろう。22位、little bit o’soulは新人music explosionのワンヒット・ワンダー、全米№1曲。伸び悩んでいるが、リフの馴染の良さがダントツ。後に、springteenやheartbreakersがカバーした名曲でもある。

23位up up　and awayは天才作曲家ジミー・ウェッブの実質デビューヒットにして、独自の世界に達した稀なる曲想。全米1位は行かなかったが。世紀にのころというか。この時期だったかと感慨を持ってしまった。ＴＷＡという飛行機会社のコマソン。バルーンに乗ったフィフス・ディメンションのハーモニーもママパパに黒人ソウルを注入して印象度抜群。24位windyは全米1位。当時コーラスハーモニー抜群のassociationの傑作cherishに続く№1。ルーサー・フリードマンという女の人の作曲。この2曲が競り合って赤丸急上昇とは至福。25位は黒人娘martha & the vandellasのjimmy mack、は佳曲にして後の天才女性作曲家イタリア系laura nyroのお気に入りでもあった。26位はこれも有能作曲家p.f.sloanのmelody for you。イントロから繰り返されるオルガンのリフが印象。歌うはgrassrootsだろうか作曲者本人だろうか。ふたつある。27位buy for me the rain。聞いたことのある曲名だがだれが歌っていたかまったく失念。調べるとあの70年代以降活躍のnitty gritty dirt bandと判明してびっくり。聴けば、何とも当時としては既に70年代の音を出していた。メロディもよい。初登場最高位28位はbyrdsのスマッシュにして67年夏を飾るサウンド。全米では鳴かず飛ばずだったが、当時から大のお気に入り曲。作は陰に隠れていたベースのクリス・ヒルマン。イントロ・ギターがかっこよく、そこに曲紹介のナレーションを重ねた当時の音楽番組の録音テープを何回も聴いた。2分半の自分（全世界いてもあと数百人）だけの大傑作。My back pagesといい全くパーフェクトだ。絶対トップ狙いで来た。29位、night & dayはジャズスタンダードをsergio mendes & brasil‘66が小気味いいボサノヴァにアレンジしたカバー曲だった。

30位はwalker brosの並ヒット。彼らは全英人気グループだが、全米はダメで日本では大ブレーク。31位、「花とおじさん」は調べてみると、歌手は伊東きよ子。作詞作曲は「バラが咲いた」と同じノリで浜庫。32位、c’mon marianneはfour seasonsのしっかりヒット。この頃はモータウンＲ＆Ｂを意識して堅実な曲作りだった。32位赤丸初登場のことはある。33位、dave clark fiveは9位まで行ったが。34位「夕陽とともに」はwild onesの例の海辺ヒット。全く覚えがない。35位、sweet soul musicはarther conleyの曲名通りのさわやか曲だったように・・。36位、mama's & papa'sのちょっとlovin' spoonfulっぽい歌creeque alley。こういう曲が全米で流行るけれどHITTABLEではとっつきにくい様相だが、やっと赤丸。ところで、mama's & papa's とlovin' spoonfulは一時メンバーが入り混じっていて、その顛末を歌ったのがこの歌と言うわけ。トーキンブルースは歌詞がわからないとダメだ。

37位、確かヨーロッパのグループで日本独自の軽ヒット。14週チャートの38位、petula clarkはこれまでもいい歌をたくさん歌ってくれた。This is my song題名もいい。チャプリンに関連した歌。39位、bob Dylanのアレンジ曲を歌うはwalker brosだが地味っぽい。40位赤丸初登場、dave clark fiveはコンスタントにヒットを出すが印象は？ここもメロディを失念中。41位、supremesの全米№1だが、以前の勢いには達していない。42位は13週チャートのbyrdsのmy back pages。全米では大ヒットではなかったが、何度聴いてもまたいつかは聴きたくなる、bob Dylanの名アレンジ曲。収録アルバムは、younger then yesterdayと呼応した。サイケデリックなカバー写真も忘れられない。傑作。43位は黒人Ｒ＆Ｂの迫力たっぷりな4 topsのスマッシュ・ヒット。ベスト10まで行って、12週チャートとあるようだが、前2曲には及ばない。

44位赤丸初登場、holiday for clown はbrian  hylandというポップス系の当時風の歌だが、メロディは失念。45位、I'm a manは、あのスゴイ、イギリス白人ソウルのspencer davis groupeのボーカル、stevie winwood。全英№1だがHTTABLEでは難しすぎてチャートは低迷。後にchicagoがカバーして聴かせてくれた。46位、silence is goldenはイギリスのtremeloesのコーラスナンバー。4 seasonsのカバーだがこれもよい出来で、日米相当流行った。47位、lovin' spoonfulは1年前の夏summmer in the cityのビッグヒットから、やや下がり気味の人気で、six o'clockは全米では中ヒットだったが、かなり良い出来。48位blue・・はたぶんブルー・コメッツの和製ポップス。49位初登場、gary lewisのgirl in loveは確かhappy togetherの大ヒットを作曲したboner & gordonの曲だが、パットはしない。50位、Friday on my mindは全米中ヒットのオーストラリアのグループeasybeatsからのヒット。出身はイギリスらしいから逆上陸と言うやつ。ビートの効いた良い曲。
